According to Linksys, there is no such model.

What have you tried (if anything)? Are you new to Linux?

Open System > Administration > Networking. What connections are available? Is your NIC there? Fill in the boxes.

That's just a cop out on the part of your ISP. They want everyone to install their bloated BS CD application in order to get online. You do NOT need that crap. Sadly, they won't assist you if you use Linux because they don't know how.

Go to: Main Menu --> Administration --> Networking and make sure eth0 is using DHCP and the connection is enabled.

Luck!

Go to the Linksys support website here assuming that your model # is WRT54G and download the PDF User Guide (on the right-hand side). Following the User Guide, don't forget to change the default mfgrs default password to one you remember (and is not easy to break) after you have configured the router- i.e. mfgr default passwords are an intrusion vector point of entry for crackers on the Internet should they find your router.

thanks for the replies.

i did use kubuntu for a short while some time ago.. it worked fine, but that was another pc..

wheni click System-->Administration --> Networking .. i only see "MODEM" under the "Network Settings" tab.. it does not show my nic.. THATS the problem. windows xp works fine and i can connect to the internet without any problems.. but ubuntu doesn't even see it.. how can i enable DHCP if my ubuntu can't see me NIC?

is it the distribution? i got the 6.06 LTS from canonical.

i appreciate all the help.

It should see the NIC. Was the NIC installed when you installed Ubuntu? Click the Add button to see if any other connection options are available. Is the drop-down box about default gateway device available for use?
