connecting to windows shares
How can I connect to a Windows share? Both File shares and a printer?

I have installed Samba, but that (I think) is for sharing a Linux drive on Windows? Is this correct?

I am running Suse 10.2, if that helps.

Edit: OK, so it seems I can connect to a share on Win2K3 Server, but not on a WinXP shared folder. I also cannot connect to a shared printer (also on the XP box).

Any ideas?

Yes, you do need Samba installed to connect to shared Windows resources, its called SMB (Server Message Blocks) or CIFS on Windows but its still the same thing.

On the XP Box, if the Firewall is enabled, then you need to add File and Print Sharing to the exclusions to allow outside connections.

I've checked the firewall settings, and everything seems OK, as I can connect to the XP shares from another XP machine with no problems.

Are you sure the Samba Client is installed and not just the server. How are you trying to connect to the Windows Shares.

Through the networking icon on the desktop. I can connect to the shares on my Win2K3 server with no problem, but can't connect to any shares (file or printer) on my XP box.

New info: I can connect to the share if I use the IP address of the WinXP box, but not the name.

I can also connect to another WinXP box (my laptop) by name with no problems.

Now, I am getting a new issue. I am trying to play a .mpg file, but get the following error: (see pic)
