On which IDE controller is each CDROM sitting on? also tell me (for both drives) if it is a master or slave

you try this in the mean time to try mount at least one of your cdroms: from the console or using run command from your desktop, type the following
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

Is there a CDRom listed under /mnt now??

[Note:] You might need to be logged on as root for this to omit a permissions error... dunno... depends on the rights of your current user account. You can do this by typing in su pressing enter and then typing in roots password... now type the command.

cool glad to hear you are sorted!

extra note on the cd burner - in linux alot of the burning programs don't autodetect your burner so you might have to go into the program setup and manually specify which drive is writer... from there the rest should be straight forward!
