running VLC on Suse Linux
I have a bunch of media files that are located on a file share that I have "mapped" to my Linux machine.

Whenever I go to play these files with VLC (because Kaffeine doesn't have the proper codec, which is another issue), VLC wants to copy teh file to a "temp" directory before playing the file.

How can I make VLC play the file from the "remote" location without copying locally first, similar to how the VLC for Windows works?

And if anyone knows how to get Kaffeine to play MPG files, please let me know also!

Thanks!

you may want to download a codec pack for your suse linux as it is not installed in it by default

donwload it form yast repositories

also use mplayer for playing your media files its excellent
