Remote Connecting
Question:
I was wonder if it were possible to remote connect from a Windows XP system to Linux system? Are there any 3rd party programs that will run on both systems?

The scenario is I'm at work and I RDC home (right now I'm going from my work XP machine to my home XP one). At some point I would like to move all of my home machines to some form of Linux. Being able to go from XP to Linux (primarily Ubuntu) would be a great thing, if not I'll be stuck using a partition of Windows at home..

Thanks,
Mike

I have been wanting to test out FreeNX for the longest time.

I have a free Cosmopod account which uses FreeNX.

VNC is nothing compared to the NX protocol.

I haven't used freenx but I know the creator's version works without flaw. I use it all the time and it's extremely fast!

For secure remote logins, I've used ssh and a windows client like putty.

No need for that. NX traffic is encrypted by default. Even when the traffic is not encrypted, the password is always sent encrypted.

NX is included with Open SuSE 10.3, and is GPL.

It's solution for crossing a firewall is errrr... ssh, surprise, surprise. Going from work to a home network *ought* to involve crossing a firewall, and port forwarding if t here's multiple machiens to be accessed.
