So You Want to Be a Linux Developer?
Article here.

Are you driving progress forward? Are you presenting papers educating your peers at open source events? Can you write papers explaining what you do and how to use your code? Do you participate in a wide variety of activities that enhance open source? Those things are all important to consider and something the Linux Foundation looks at closely,

P.S. Don't let the paragraph above scare you off! Read the article at the URL link posted above.

I like this article too, Tom! What they say about starting early is KEY! Websites like sourceforge and ohloh.net make this so easy and wonderful.

Even if you don't get a job writing code for SUSE, it's a great skill set to have!

I have a job just to use the damn thing, let alone to develop it.

Some times in the middle of a frustration I develop a feeling of wanting to round up the devlopers and point a gun at their heads.

Ouch!

Wow. Why is it that bad for you? Or is that purely the rage?

That was an interesting article.

I used to be pretty big into programming, but I kind fo fell out of it because...well..."If you don't use it, you lose it". I just started reading through C++ tutorials yesterday to refresh my memory. College always went too slow for me--mainly due to the fact that I was unable to really see anything being done on the overhead because of my poor vision; I always had the assignments done before they were assigned..just followed the syllabus. Hah...One point I finished a whole quarter's work and turned it in after summer break. Didn't have to come back until the final. Was my Linux class, now that I think of it.

I'd love to get back into programming/development...I just need to find some good tutorials and free eBooks...as I can't afford to buy any books.

Thanks for that article, lotus. That was definitely more of a push to me to get back in the game.

Hi InterKnight,

Glad to hear your feedback!

All you have to do to find tutorials and books (free) is do a "Search Titles Only" Advanced search separately on the keywords "tutorial" and "book" for the Linux forum. I'm sure that some threads that others and I have posted will be found.
