Migrating from windows?
The Perfect Desktop (for us newbies anyway).
This is what is on MeanMachine.

VectorLinux is on the OldPutter which is also quite impressive and easy to use.

If I travel and there is a puter available for use, I take my PUPPY(Linux) with me.
If it is a location you go to alot, with permission, you can save settings to hard drive so that next time you boot it up on that computer it will be faster and it will be set up just the way you left it configured the last time you used it on that puter.

Now I know why saikee has a hundred plus distros!

I believe Knoppix will be next, forensic edition.

Thanks for the link Tom. Looks very interesting (just glanced for now, bookmarked to read later).
I have this , just haven't burnt & tried yet

edit:
Just went back, noticed they need seeders, I am downloading now and will seed it for a while.

If you're into that kind of thing (security tools and such), you might want to look into PHLAK (Professional Hackers Linux Assault Kit) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHLAK.

Otherwise, Knoppix STD is pretty boring. lol. Wouldn't give it to my sister.

Hello briealeida
Thank-you for the link.
Wiki says developement stopped on the project may 5th this year and their site is down so I can't look at it. I will keep checking back.

I am not into this stuff yet, just getting into Linux. I am in no hurry. I can do anything I want to do on a normal daily basis with the OS I have. I have a lot of reading bookmarked on the subject of Linux and how to use it. Before I do this though, I am just observing, trying to make sense of things, letting my brain grasp what it is seeing. Things are getting clearer. It at least doesn't look all Greek to me anymore.

I downloaded PenguinSluethKit in case of an emergency. It has a GUI (autopsy forensic browser, seperate download) that will allow you to do most things without using the CLI.

You can still get the ISOs for it. I'm so absent-minded. I didn't even realize it was past EOL.

Best of luck to you.
