Exclamation Linux OS
Okay so I didn't know what I was doing, but I did it anyway. I installed Linux on my computer, I did it as a partion so it would'nt take over the whole hardrive. I was HOPING I would still have my old windows, which was windows 2000. I can't seem to get to it now though. Any suggestions????

Go into the terminal and type
Code:
fdisk -l
If you have a Win2k system it will reside at the front with a ntfs or fat32 partition of Type ID 7 or c respectively.

If you can see it that mean it can be mounted. Freespire should have mount it for you.

Every Linux has a terminal mode like the command prompt of a MS Windows.

If you don't use the terminal mode you are not even using 50% of what Linux is capable of.

okay, so it took the command promt but I still don't see where I have a choice of using windows or freespire. Is it at the grub menu? If so windows is not an option. Sorry I really don't know what I am doing.

This time I am lost.

What exactly is your problem?

You sound as you have installed Freespire but do not know how to find Win2k from it and so was my previous advice.

Now you are talking creating a user account in Freespire and talking about boot loader Grub etc.

I understand you may not know what is going on but you have to define your problem first.

Can you boot any of the the two system?

Can you do "fdisk -l" and show us the output?

Win2k and Freespire are two different operating systems. You are allowed to use only one system at a time (unless you have a virtual machine management software).

You can use one system to "mount" the partition of another thereby accessing the data across different platforms.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about things, so I will try to clarify: I am not able to get to windows 2000 only my Linux Freespire OS. Since I installed Freespire on a partion of my hardrive should'nt I be able to choose which OS I want to use. I'm not talking about using both @ the same time. Just one or the other. On freespire I put in the command fdisk -1 and it seemed like it took the command the window disappeared then nothing. I don't know what I suppose to do after that. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try
Code:
su
follow by the root password.

It will get you the root privilege ro run system-related commands.

-----------------------------

Back to your problem

According the note I kept my Freespire 1.1.73 it has Grub as the boot loader. If that is the case show us the output of "fdisk -l" and the content of /boot/grub/menu.lst and we would advise how you can boot both systems. Should be a piece of cake.
