Solved: gui for ubuntu server 7.04
How to I fire up the (a) gui for ubuntu server?

I prefer KDE, but Gnome will do.

All of the arguments against using a gui w/ server are irrelevant. My boss (a self-described command-line cripple) wants a gui, and he's the one who signs my paychecks.

Way back when, on RedHat-based distros, "startx" was the command. Ubuntu either doesn't use "startx", or it hides it well.

TIA, TTFN

Did you install an X Window System?
Either Xfree86 or Xorg.

Did you configure that correctly?

Hmmmmmm.

You're saying that installing X would be a start.

That makes sense.

I'll try it. Thanks.

Hi snorkytheweasel,

Read the 2nd topic, Install an Ubuntu Server and everything after it, on this webpage before you attempt anything else first.
