im new to linux and instead of install it and find i dont get on with it i downloaded a knoppix disk .ive set my desktop so that the CD ROM is the first boot drive and put my knoppix disk in and restarted but it doesn't reconize the knoppix disk and just starts windows me
please help me as i need a free alternative to windows

Try PCLinuxOS
http://www.pclinuxos.com/
Links for download are at bottom of page.

It will work right away without having to learn a bunch of commands first.
Then you can delve deeper and deeper from there.
