Cool Error Installing Ubuntu 7.0
Hi my husband and I are beginners with hardware.

He's just put together a system and we decided to do a clean installation of Ubuntu that Leo is always talking about. First he successfully partitioned the hard drive and we inserted the CD I burned of Ubuntu and not its telling us that "NTLDR is missing".

I didnt see any step by step instructions for installing Ubuntu on their website so we are pretty much winging it from here. Does does anyone know what that error means?

We stated NTFS for XP when we made the partition wondering if thats got something to do with it.

TIA,
Amelia & Joe

Hi folks!

You won't be able to install Ubuntu (or any Linux) on an NTFS partition. You can use the partitioner within the Ubuntu Live CD (gparted) to repartition that particular partition to ext3 instead.

Luck!

How about Ubuntu though Wubi Eric?

What Operating Systems are supported?

Windows Vista, XP, and 2000 are known to be working fine with Wubi. Windows 98 should also work, but it has not been thoroughly tested. Windows ME is not supported. Linux is supported through Lubi [WWW] http://lubi.sourceforge.net/.

Ah... Wubi is a different animal altogether. It doesn't actually install Ubuntu on the system. It installs it to a directory within Windows. From what I've heard/read about it, it's a pretty cool way to "test" Linux for Windows users. However, this leaves your Ubuntu installation at the mercy of all the other faults and vulnerabilities found within Windows.
