Exclamation Invisible Mouse Problem on Ubuntu 7.07
*ed: Ubuntu Version 7.04^

Hi all,

While loading from the Ubuntu Live ISO CD I have experienced the following problems:

1. If I boot into the normal Live mode (the first preference) my screen goes nuts after it tries to load and the monitor flashes and it has an error saying "Input not supported".

I assume that this is something to do with my video card, a Nvidia 6600 AGP card, but I am not sure how to resolve the issue.

2. If I boot in the VGA mode, I think thats the name, it will boot into Ubuntu and display the desktop ok, but when I try to move the mouse around I cannot see the pointer, even though it IS there because I can still see it highlight icons etc when it is positioned over it. So basically it is invisible. Again I assume that this is some kind of graphical issue, but I am not sure of how to resolve this and also if it is because of Ubuntu or my PC (or video card.)

Any help or suggestions appreciated!

I am currently learning to use Ubuntu, as a tech at work is a bit of a Linux fan and is teaching me some of the basics and is helping me install it onto a second hard drive that we managed to get hold of. It has been fun so far! Very much looking forward to getting the beryl add-on for Ubuntu, it looks amazing...

See the section on "How to setup nVidia drivers in 7.04" in the Unofficial Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) Starter Guide.

I do not know if that will help to correct problem 2. with your mouse.

Either way, let us know how you fare.

Also, there is Envy: Applications>System Tools pull down should give you a link to it.

I have never tried it because I do not have an Nvidia card.

When I hard-installed Ubuntu onto my PC it worked ok, although one of the first things it wanted to do was load a driver for the NV videocard to enable desktop effects.

It's all working perfectly now. Solved it's self.
