If you're assigning a static IP to the Linux box, you'll also have to setup the default route to go through the Windows box. If the Windows box will have 192.168.0.1 as it's static IP for the wired connection, the Linux box will need 192.168.0.1 as its default gateway. You'll also have to assign DNS addresses, etc., on the Linux box.
