I have one PC with Windows and another with Ubuntu 7.04 linux. My Windows PC gets it's internet from a wireless nic. I also have a wired nic in the same computer. (which uses the crossover cable). I connect the crossover to my laptop with Ubuntu. Listed below are the network settings used:

windows PC
IP: 192.168.0.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Linux PC
IP: 192.168.0.2
Netmask: 255.255.255.0

On the windows PC I right clicked on my wireless nic and checked the box that allowed for internet sharing.

I tried pinging both computers and they both see each other it's just that the Linux PC cannot access the internet still. Any suggestions?

If you're assigning a static IP to the Linux box, you'll also have to setup the default route to go through the Windows box. If the Windows box will have 192.168.0.1 as it's static IP for the wired connection, the Linux box will need 192.168.0.1 as its default gateway. You'll also have to assign DNS addresses, etc., on the Linux box.

Sooo close! Well after putting in the default gateway it automatically put in the correct dns severs. The only problem is when I type in something like google it just searches all day and never finds the page although it doesn't say server not found.

I believe you have to use Internet Connection Sharing on your Windows box.
