Being an undergrad EE student, I can not afford the Linux version of the Quartus II software. I was wondering if anyone had any experience running Quartus II with an application like WINE to make it compatible with Linux. Right now I have the windows version and would like to switch to linux, and since this program is intergral to my major, it is the only thing keeping me from making the jump. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing on a spare disk (if you have one) any Linux distro from a Live CD and
and then install Wine on it. From there you can experiment to see if the Windows version works under Wine on the Linux distro.

Suggest trying the Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn (7.04) distro for which you can download the ISO for a Live CD from here.

Then follow the Starter Guide instructions for Wine from here.
