What do you want to achieve with " /etc/resolv.conf"? changing something on a burn CD?

I don't use this command myself but anything with .conf sounds like a system setting to me and all files on a CD is ready only. Would this be the reason?

The /etc/resolv.conf file is not an executable file and if you type:
$ /etc/resolv.conf
or
# /etc/resolv.conf
you will get a permission denied message because the /etc/resolv.conf file is not an executable command. The file is only intended to be read.

If you are trying to change the contents of the file, you probably need to do so from the root account, so issue the command:
$ sudo -i
# cd /etc
# gedit resolv.conf
to perform your edits.

Of course, if you are already root, skip the sudo -i command.

it didnt work, im pretty sure i was root considering i did the sudo su, sudo -i doesnt seem to work atall:

sudo: -i: command not found

I get to the stage where i type, 'gedit resolv.conf' and once i press enter it says; gedit: command not found.

I think its getting there, im actaully learning alot about linux just trying to get this little bit done.

One thing that is interesting is that when i do type sudo -i, up comes about a dozen or so other commands i could use after sudo (i assume), followed by:

[-u username/#uid] -s l <command>

Could this have something to do with my problem?

Cheers
