DVD not detected
Hi there i am having trouble installing suse 10.2 the dvd boots fine
then it says it could not detect installation cd so it goes into manual setup

So far i have tried booting from all option in the menu - no joy
done the md5 checksum to make sure the dvd was fine
enabled AHCI in bios then chose the JMicro option for pata in the kernel options- still did not work
also tried in boot options insmod=ide=generic and still did not work
does not seem to want to detect my dvd drive

My specs are

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q6600
MOTHERBOARD: Abit IP35 P35
VID CARD: Nvidia 7950
DVD: Asus QuietTrack
Hard Drice: ATA

does anyone have any other ideas i am trying to get away from windows
am new to linux and would really like to start using suse. Both the hard disk
and the DVD drive are on the IDE cable

anyhelp would be appreciated

The current release is Open SuSE 10.3, burn another Installation disk and go with that. Make sure you do a net install to pick up the updates made since the install iso was created, they are needed.

It looks like the Linux kernel, doesn't have a driver to access the CD media, so booting works (uses BIOS calls) but the Linux drivers don't.

Nice Mobo! http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10...abit_ip35_pro/ I'm hoping that the P35 chipset will be supported better by the new release, so a standard install will "just work".
