MythTV general questions
I was wondering does MythTV work with a tv tuner card? Also does it have a good parental control? And is it ACTUAL live tv? or just recorded?

Thanks again !

MythTV will work with most tv tuner cards, however, you should check your tuner card for general Linux compatibility. MythTV will allow you to watch live TV or record. With software based tuner cards you tend to need more processing power from the computer itself. Check out the MythTV wiki for more information on tuners http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php...re_Card_Matrix

I've never investigated parental controls myself.

Cheers!

Yep, I wish I coulda controlled 1 of my parents a bit better!
If you do find the trick then it's bit too late now, I'm afraid for me.

Alright good news i found parental controls here :

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Parental_Controls

Also i got my TV tuner card recognized by mythtv! Unfortunately the backend and frontend still aren't cooperating together. I'm still having some issues with that.

Also does mythtv need the internet to watch live tv? Or is it only for certain features?

Better news! i changed the master ip to my external ip and and changed the top ip with my internal ip. I went to the terminal typed "mythtvbackend" then opened frontend. I hit "watch tv" and the screen went blank for about a second and came back to the main screen.

So close! if anyone has any ideas on what i'm missing please share.

HA! i got the tv to work with the tv tuner card.

I put my external IP for both ip slots. Terminal>mythtvbackend (keep it open)

Then open frontend click watch tv and BOOM!

I'm still working a few bugs though. The video is a little slow. Seems like its dubbed lol kinda funny. And when i close mythtv the audio is still playing lol

If anyone knows how to fix this would be appreciated!

Well, if you're not using the loopback address localhost (127.0.0.1) it may be less efficient, for instance perhaps every packet is going through netfilter rules on external address that is firewalled.

I've found playing video files from disk, was improved by configuring the NVidia 3D graphics driver, rather than the vesafb which the aborted OS installation had used by default (an unusual bad kernel update installed a broken network driver, so I had to troubleshot and do all configuration post-installation).

Sync-ing video and audio, over a network requires buffering, I've had a similar effect closing audio players, where a few seconds worth of output continues after I closed the window. Think about it, the application could make you wait a while until the sounds stops before closing. Would that really be an improvement, or just be getting in your way?

If using the loopback device, and then if problem remains tinkering with mythtv's buffering (reduce a little as it's all on 1 box) leaves you with issues, and noone pops up here who actually know anything about this stuff, I'd try the MythTV-users list see http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythInfo
