Solved: Out of Frequency error in Ubuntu Gutsy
I've recently installed Gutsy (7.10),removing the previous version i.e 7.04.Everything is all right except an error message. When booting it shows that the operating frequency is lower than the frequency in use.The operating Horizontal Frequency ranges from 30 to 53 Hz for the monitor where as the frequency in use is 63.9 Hz.I've tried to adjust the resolution from the preferences menu but 60 Hz is lowest in that list. What should be done now?For your information,7.04 didn't has any issues with monitor frequency.

It shows something like this...

OUT OF FREQUENCY

HF:63.9 kHz
VF:60kHz

OPERATING FREQUENCY

HF:30-54 kHz
VF:50-120 kHz

POWER MANAGEMENT:19s...11s...1s

Do you still have your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file from 7.04 and 7.10, to do a diff on them?
Do you have the same graphics driver?

In Screen and Graphics Preferences? If I lower my screen resolution I get a choice of Hz rates for example 56Hz. But that is the screen refresh rate, it's not the same as frequencies.

Playing around with this, I see there's a big update for the Nvidia legacy driver, I'll see if it "breaks" my system.

Your monitor manufacturer should have a frequency range for both the horizintal and vertical direction. Just use then in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the

"HorizSync" and

"VertRefresh" statements

Section "Monitor"
Option "CalcAlgorithm" "XServerPool"
DisplaySize 386 290
HorizSync 30-110
Identifier "Monitor[0]"
ModelName "VISION MASTER PRO 450"
Option "DPMS"
VendorName "IIYAMA"
VertRefresh 50-150
UseModes "Modes[0]"
EndSection

Is what it looks like on my system. Backup the file and then change the values.

But do check that the drive is as expected, I've had some issues with default "vesa" drivers being used, rather than the specific graphic card driver, so my idea was to eliminate that possibility as a source of issues.

There nothing like Horizsync or VerRefresh in the file.In stead of that I installed start up manager from synaptic and changed the values in the required fields. Now the problem is solved.Thank you both of you for your help.
