My Thinkpad notebook/Realtek LAN card running PClinuxOS will no longer connect to internet after I installed [then removed] the Guard Dog firewall.

I suspect there may be "orphan files" left from the Guard Dog installation but I have no idea where to find them or how to "clear" them.

Also the PCLOS Control Center > Network & Internet > Wireless Connection shows a Belkin card "network connection" that is no longer installed but has 5 green bars !!! I now have TWO connections - (1) the library hot spot and (2) the Belkin card. The library has the green circle.

I don't think this is blocking my connecting to the internet BUT how do I remove it I only borrowed the Belkin card and have no plans to use it.

Right now, I'm in a "mess" because I don't understand networking [or its terminology] and could use all the help I can get.

There should be network configuration option which lets you remove interfaces, somewhere in an "Administration" menu.

Unfortunately I don't have PCLOS so I can't tell you exactly, nor be sure of right files to hack in terminal. Hopefully someone who does run PCLOS will help, or you will find it yourself.

Thanks for response, using a terminal I found these two files related to Guard Dog

/etc/rc.firewall and /etc/rc.firewall~ [firewall supposed to be "removed"]

But when I "right click" on them, there is no option to delete/remove.

I assume I need to be in "root" but I have no idea how to proceed.

P.S. There is an option to "archive" them ?

Delete the connection you don't want

or:
Click PC button>System>Configuration>Control Center>Internet & Networking

Those files may be "configuration" preserved in case you reinstalled Guard Dog, they may not be "executed".

To see find out if they are just text files, or scripts. Scripts have x (execute) bits shown, and usually start with "#!/bin/sh" 1st line.

Again I cannot look at PCLOS to be sure to give good advice here, so it's best if someone with it, tells you what those files do, if they don't have them, then deleting them should be safe.

I didn't get to add to that last posting [it got away from me !] But I need to get the local library "hot spot" to see what I have accomplished so far.

I have a "hunch" I just may get that Thinkpad back online.
