Question Solved: Placement of "Wubi" on my HDD?
I have procrastinated long enough; now want to move on to learning to use Linux.

I have downloaded "Wubi," since it apparently makes using "Ubuntu" easy for someone with a Ws "XP" setup. My HDD has both a "C" partition and another, "F," which at the moment only contains my data files. It has plenty of space for more.

When starting the installation of "Wubi," the "F" partition was automatically choosen. I just want to be sure that that is proper one, rather than putting it in "C."

Thanks, {redoak}

The installation will take as much space as it would if installed to the drive. So you'll need maybe 5 GB's for a full installation of Ubuntu. That may be why it picked that drive.

Is that the only place that you have enough space? It really doesn't matter which you use, however, as far as functionality. But it may run faster and with fewer problems if it is on a drive other than your Windows drive.

I used WUBI for a while and it worked perfectly. But, I found that I often wanted to do something in Vista and then needed to reboot. So, I uninstalled WUBI and installed Ubuntu into VirtualBox so I could run Ubuntu and Vista at the same time.

"E": Thanks for the response and info. Apparently "Wubi" 'knows' it is best not put in "C," if possible. There is plenty of room in my "C," but, as I said, "Wubi" put itself in "F."

I will be checking on "VirtualBox."
