Question Linux Unbuntu installation help
Hmello i have downloaded Ubuntu linux 7.10 i try using my live CD and i loads up fine it takes me to the boot screen and than i get....
Busybox and it looks like the command prompt in windows... heres what it says..

Busybox v.1.1.5 (and it also says some stuff about my ubuntu..) built in shell (ash)
type help for a list of commands....

Is this normal or is this some kind of crazy error... i am completely new to linux ubuntu and i also have windows XP already installed on my PC.....

I seriously need help i need it to startup so i can install it on my computer.... so plz help

also the linux im trying to install is Ubuntu gutsy gibbon 7.10

Never saw that booting Ubuntu. It should give you a menu and then boot to the live OS after 30 seconds. The download may be corrupt. Is the CD in good condition? Try burning it again at a slow speed.

Which version did you d/l? Was it the normal version or the special text-version installer?

uhh i dont really know i got the one for normal pc's the 32bit i'll uninstall.. donwload it again... but its weird cause the loader for ubuntu i think its called GRUB idk but it says it loads ok... and i get the Ubuntu 7.10 futsy gibbion boot screen and yeah instantly goes to busybox.... i'll download again.... friggin 600 something MB ......

actually im going to re download the live cd from Ubuntu's website and see if that works

The text-based installer isn't "live" so you can't run Ubuntu from it. It is only for installing and you can use it in Wubi to run Ubuntu inside Windows.

If your download was corrupt, I don't think it would have booted at all, so check it with IsoBuster to see if it says "bootable CD" and the folders look OK. Maybe you just need to try a different CD or drive if you have 2.

hmm... ok i stopped my download of ubuntu after you said that... also i use daemon tools but ok i'll get isobuster.... and look throught the .iso its probly my fault... but im new to linux so i'll uninstall... and get the .iso i have and put it on my windows again and them look at it with isobuster and try to install i t from there..... cause i want to install it on my harddrive and all the tutorials i found for linux dual booting say that your suppost to get a desktop with ubuntu on it i'll try to install it again i'll keep you posted

thank god i kept ubuntuv.iso on a Flash drive.....
