I prefer PCLinuxOS KDE. For some reason, I just don't like the GNOME look.

But on my laptop, I'm stuck with Windows. I've tried a few Linux distros on it, and none of them seemed to support my sound driver. I should try again, as that was a couple of months ago, maybe someone fixed it.

OpenSUSE 10.3, MEPIS 7.0 so far

I've been a Linux user for a couple months. I first tried Debian Etch but had video issues; instead installed OpenSUSE 10.3. Good user community plus access to packages.

I have three MEPIS 7.0 installations - one older laptop, one older (P-III 500 mHz) desktop, one newer desktop.

I have been happy with both distros. I am still sorting out file sharing / networking issues with one of the machines but it's a low priority.

I may take the newest MEPIS desktop and install Ubuntu on it just to see why people are so excited about it. Might also try PCLinuxOS on that machine too, just for fun.

I have relatives and work colleagues who have given me hand-me-down desktops and a laptop that I have enjoyed installing Linux on as a sandbox.

My 2 favorites are Suse10.3 & PCLOS both in KDE.
