Sabayon Linux 3.5 Loop 1 DVD - Can it run as a live DVD?
Hi all,
I'm trying to go about dual booting a computer (not sure which one yet :P), and found sabayon, and thought it looked great. Downloaded it, and have burnt it to a DVD. I then put it in a laptop, not to install (nowhere near that stage yet), just to see if it actually worked and was booting. Yay! I was greeted with a screen similar to
this one.

So my question is, if i go with "start sabayon", and not "install sabayon", will it just run as a live DVD, or will it try to install it? I'm pretty sure it should just be a live DVD, but didn't want to run the risk of it installing on a system not partitioned or set up.

thanks,
Nappymonster

Hi nappymonster,

I have heard of Live CDs, not Live DVDs. Usually, a Live CD is limited to 700MB which should play well with a 1GB RAM after it boots up its Live CD environment. A Live DVD seems to connotes a larger space (ususally found on large GB disks) for installation.

If I were you, I would go back to the website where you downloaded Sabayon Linux and read the documentation there to answer your question - like a FAQ. Look for System Requirements for use of the so-called Live DVD.

Since you only have 1GB RAM, I would stick with a Live CD if there is such a thing for Sabayon LInux, and follow up with the so-called Live DVD.

Hi nappymonster,

It does look like you can just issue the command: sabayon
to start Sabayon Linux from what they say on that webpage.

Your Computer Specification information (just click on the Computer Specs icon to the right of your <user name> <on line status> <Computer Specs> in any one of your posts) told me that your computer has 1GB of RAM.

P.S. Let us know how it went!

ah, you're right. That info is actually for another computer, but i also have 1gb of ram in this one. I haven't been on here for ages, so forgot about that :P

Ok, so i put the disk in, restarted the machine, selected start, and it sort of hung on the screen. Had to hold down power button to reboot. I did leave it for 10 mins, so i don't think i was just being impatient. However, i now have another computer set up, with 20gb free, that i'm going to partition and hopefully be dual booting XP + sabayon.

If you have any suggestions about making it work, then let me know. I'll set it to solved in a few days if you don't.
Thanks,
Nappymonster
