I obtained dillo to occasionally use on my Ubuntu 7.10 machine and although I had no problems getting dillo to work I ran into an issue when I was "tinkering" with it to set the browser up the way I wanted.

I somehow lost the "V" and "F" button which allowed me to go into the settings and now I can't seem to get into the settings. I uninstalled and then re-installed thinking that it would go back to default but for some reason it opens the same way as when it was when I marked it for uninstall.

Anyone have any tips I could try?

Hi Indy452,

Your problem sounds like the browser profile was preserved across installations - which is not uncommon for browsers. Issue the following command from your home directory: ls -a
and look for the directory, .dillo. If it exists, then you can opt to either rename is as in: mv .dillo .dillo-old or remove it with: rm -fr .dillo, and then try reinstallation of the browser dillo to get back your lost functionality buttons.

Apparently, your attempt to include an attachment did not work. Try to upload it again or contact the Administrator - click on red-white triangle on right-hand-side of your post #1 in this thread - for assistance if the above suggestions did not work out for you.

Thats funny, I did have a bit of trouble with the managing thumbnails but there is a link that takes you to the screenshot isn't there? I'm showing a link on my original post and when I click the link it shows the screenshot.

As for the browser issue I just thought it would be simpler to just uninstall it then re-install it and start over since its such a small browser.
I haven't tried that tip you gave me Tom, should I type Is-a in the terminal? Is that what your saying? I guess I just don't understand the where and when.

Thanks I'll poke around some more but It just seems weird that I can't just re-install the thing to be like it was when I first installed it. Oh well, half the fun of using linux is tinkering around getting to know stuff huh?

Hi Indy452,

Note: ls -a
has a space between the ls and the '-'.

You need to bring up a Terminal window in which to issue the command on your Ubuntu system, i.e. Applications>Accessories>Terminal.

Then type in the Terminal window:
$ ls -a
and look for the .dillo directory and then issue the command:
$ rm -fr .dillo

Then re-install the dillo browser, after first having uninstalled it.

That little diddy in the terminal worked. I really don't understand it but hey after I re-installed dillo it came back the way it was when I first installed it.
