What’s This “Linux” Thing and Why Should I Try It?
Article here.

If you have been considering Linux and are open to moving away from the Windows model of the world of computing for whatever reason - this article is for you!

Nice article

Thanks.

I never realised it was so much more secure than windows.

But is it much harder to get games to work properly with linux?

Hi tony oh,

I have posted previous in this form a thread about games in Linux - there are over 300.

Use the Advanced Search web page to search for the keyword (in Titles Only) game, and specify at the same time look for threads started by user, lotuseclat79, in the Unix/Linux forum only.

That should produce a hit to the thread I posted.

Tony oh, some windows games can be played using wine. World of Warcraft works well. And a lot of windows programs that I've used have also worked.
Just to name a few:
Oddworld: Abe's Odysee
Editplus 2
mIRC
Excursion
Kanji Gold
Vue d' Espirit
and others that I can't remember at this moment...

Another article which I think compliments the first one for people thinking of switching.

For those of you who do use Wine on Linux, there is a new front-end called PlayOnLinux that is talked about in this article: Play Windows games on Linux with PlayOnLinux.

Thanks Tom!

Just tried to fire up XP last night, after disconnecting of course, couldn't for the life of me remember passwords for either account. Been too many months since last time (Sometime last year).

I can probably wipe that drive soon now. Once I get around to testing new link.
Maybe others can keep us posted with their results. I'm only interested in GTR2 working.

You got my interest. You got Wow to run under Linux? I understand wine is still in beta and that there are several bugs. Is it difficult to install, any problems running it?

Visit the wine website: http://www.winehq.org/
There they have lists of programs that are compatible with wine. WoW is on the "platinum" list I believe. No it is not hard to install at all. You can get it from synaptic if you're on Ubuntu or use the terminal.
Code:
sudo apt-get install wine
