creating own os. how?
sorry is this is the wrong forum, but i wasnt sure where it went, and i thought that using linux would be the best option tbh to crate my own os

anyway how do i go about this, are there any like pre built os systems i can use to build up off? or anything like that. or are there any other ways? thanks

I would recommend using the Linux Kernel (licensed under GNU). Look at the source for a desktop environment or any other program that you want to make for it. Get an idea for how it works, then start writing a similar program. It will take time. Maybe see if you can get a book on Linux Development so you can read up on the topic too.

LinuxFromScratch, definitely. There's so much there.


If you're looking for something more complete, you can go with remastersys, even.

Or, you could get the source code of Minix (where Linus Torvalds started the Linux project from) and start from here. Minix v 3.1.2 (stable) is available from here.

You can re-master Knoppix to suite your needs, making your own customized live CD.

Other distros have this capability too, I believe.

Can you be a little more specific maybe about why you want to create your own? If it's just for the hell of it, any of these solutions might work for you. Or did you have something more specific in mind?
