If you arrange each operating system resides in its own partition you tick every box.

I have two laptops that are dual boot. One is Xp/Ubuntu 7.1 and Vista/Ubuntu 7.1 I found a great install guide which I followed the steps and it worked great with no issues. the website is http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_w...lled_first.htm

I love the linux version Ubuntu, once I am able to get all my games I play to work on Ubuntu I will make the switch permanently to linux till then I am with dual booting.
Hope the walkthrough on how to dualboot is helpful

horus,
A great link, many thanks. At the moment I'm using Xubuntu from Wubi;
http://wubi-installer.org/

but the link you gave with it's screenshots will be most useful as I have Ubuntu on disc and was planning to go for dual boot.

Richard.
