Special effects in Kubuntu 8.10
Kubuntu says that the package needed for this is missing but I've installed all the packages possible. Not sure where to go from here. By the way I know that I labeled the OS wrong. It's 8.04 instead of 8.10

Hi Diver--13,

Visit the file, /etc/apt/sources.list, and issue the command:
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

In the file, there are usually two commented out lines for additional repositories at the end of the comments. Delete the '#' character at the beginning of each line, and then Save the file, and exit the editor.

Next, launch System>Synaptic Package Manager, and click on Reload which will update your repositories with additional packages.

Hopefully, you will be able to get the package you need.

If you are not successful, let us know as there are additional repositories that might contain the missing package you need if the above information does not get your package, or if you have already made the edits and reloaded your packages and it is not there.

-- Tom

P.S. What is the name of the package you seek?

kind of new to linux style operating systems so pardon my ignorance but what exactly do you mean "issue the command". I'm not totally sure what the package is named (I am using a buddies interent) but it has something to do with nvidia. Also if you might have an idea on what to do but no matter what I try my sound is non-existant.

Thanks!
