Looking to install ubuntu 6.06
I am currently using vista. I have never used any other OS other than windows. Now I am looking to install ubuntu. I need to ask few questions:

During installation, do I have to format the entire hard disk or just the partition which contains vista?
Does ubuntu 6.06 (LTS) comes with cube desktop feature or I have to install some 3rd party software like compiz?
Will Ubuntu install nvidia geforce 5200 drivers and HP printer (3900 deskjet) drivers?

vista sucks big time
Help needed...
Thanx.

If you format the hard drive you destroy all your data.

If you format a Vista partition you destroy it.

The correct way to do it is to use Vista's disk management program to "resize" the partition, make it smaller and get enough hard disk space for the Ubuntu installation.

A LInux can coexist with any operating system and so is Vista. No need to kill one to please the other.

My Ubuntu 8.04 has nividia driver for my geforce 7600GT and prints on HP psc950 printer so it should be OK for 3900 model too.

Ubuntu 6.06 is at least two generations behind. As I ran V7.04 before.

6.06 -> 7.04 -> 7.10 -> 8.04 = the versions I ran.

If you're gonna go with Ubuntu Linux, I would suggest getting a copy of 8.04 from ubuntu.com
If you have a slow internet connection (or don't know how to burn ISO disk images) then you can always order a free (free shipping too!) CD from that site via shipit. Takes a few weeks to come in the mail though...
