Help with Ubuntu installation!!
I downloaded Ubuntu (Latest version) and burned it onto a disk. When I boot from the disk and try to install it, it says 3 things:
Controller not found
incompatable format
and some error
What am I doing wrong?!

It is possible that you burned the ISO as a data file instead of an image file - if so it will not work.
Here's instructions on how to burn ISO's. http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO

When I recently installed Kubuntu 8.10 (newest version) I had a similar problem. The only way that I found a way around it was to burn the ISO to a DVD instead of a CD. Just a thought if nothing else works.

Thumbs up Help with ubuntu installation
I have had 2 successful installations of ubuntu 8.04 using the following procedure: Copy the iso file directly to a CD along with a copy of WUBI.exe. Insert the CD and from either windows 2000 or windows XP run the wubi.exe program. Things will seem to run/stop for a long time but it is taking a long time to install. Ubuntu will then be installed as any ordinary program on your hard drive, can be selected from the windows boot menu and can easily be removed (as any general program)

WUBI.exe wants to be able to see the ubuntu 8.04.iso file. On one computer, I copied the 2 files directly to the hard drive but it created ( has created ) a bigger program. Wubi can be found on the internet. Good luck Charles

make sure you are downloading the right version. when in doubt download the x86 version and not the 64-bit version.

I think I might have found the problem. I was downloading the 64 bit intel version, because I thought I should use that because I have a intel duo core laptop. I will try downloading the other version and see if that works. I will also try the instructions at http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO, I used different instructions before that are were not very detailed.
Thank you all for posting your suggestions...

as I said before, when in doubt use the x86 version, but as a side note I have a core 2 duo laptop and I use the 64AMD installation and it worked fine, both on ubuntu, kubuntu, and sabayon.

you can also do a cd check to verify the cd burned correctly.
