After a couple of disappointing download experiences this AM downloading a 5.44 MB file,
both instances of attempting to download the file using the standard Firefox Download Manager and the Status bar add-on (not complicit) failed to complete with no message as to why, I gave DownThemAll! a try - and it was a delight.
Consequently, I have decided to use dTA! exclusively. I have also used d4x and found it to be less informative than dTA!, but more stable than the standard Download Manager.
dTA! looks to be comparable to the Windows Free Download Manager in terms of configurability, i.e. it spawned 4 download threads in the 5.44 MB download.
Even though the Hardy version of the new Download Manager now has resume capability, it still pales against the pleasurable use of dTA!
I highly recommend it for downloads in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron). My recommendation to the Firefox Group at Mozilla is to advise the use of the dTA! Firefox add-on for a better user experience.
