Burning KNOPPIX .iso properly
Hope I'm posting this on the right forum, redirect me to where this should go if it isn't. I'm currently trying to burn a KNOPPIX .iso onto a CD using Nero Burning ROM on a computer running Vista. I've tried both 12x and 8x write speeds (with but v.5.1.1 and 4.0.2 of KNOPPIX) when trying to burn the image but the final CD never runs properly (it runs, but when trying to load the OS it fails to find part of the library that it needs to load). The only troubleshooting that I've seen for such an error is burning the image at a lower write speed, but 8x is the lowest the CD/DVD drive on this laptop can go.

Now, I'm trying to burn KNOPPIX specifically because I'm aiming to use it to fix a corrupted ntfs.sys file on my desktop (which is running Windows XP but currently can't even boot the OS properly without restarting, and when auto-restart on system failure is disabled I get an 0x00000024 BSoD). I'm refusing to force a complete system recovery because I can't afford to lose everything I have stored on the hard drive which is why I'm hoping to get KNOPPIX running, it boots completely from CD and has the utilities to fix this error. I just need to figure out how to get this .iso burned properly. :/

Sound to me you have burnt it correctly or it won't boot at all.

Many distros are now shipped with ntfs-3g capability allowing you to read and write a ntfs partition. You can try Slax as well as it is smaller.

A full Knoppix 5.1.1 is a DVD-size.
