booting ubuntu 7.04 from usb
hi there guys,,

i wanted to try ubuntu 7.04,, so i looked for some guides on how to boot ubuntu 7.04 from my usb,, and i found this guide on the net,, http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/09...stent-install/

i followed the guide in the bottom of the page,, the one saying "using windows to prepare and move the files to the usb stick"

i used a desktop with windows xp,, and i was able transfer all the file needed to my usb stick (hp 2gb usb stick),, then i tried to boot my acer aspire one from my usb stick with the ubuntu files,, but when it boots i always get a black empty screen with a message from the upper left hand corner of my screen that says "error 17",, i tried 2 times but still got the same error,, don't know where i went wrong,, so i tried to boot my ubuntu usb on the desktop with windows xp,, but unfortunately i still got the same message of error but this time it said "error 21",,, still the black empty screen,,,

do you guys know where i went wrong,, and i would like to ask if you could assist me in any way,, thank you in advance again,,

p.s. i would like to take this opportunity to THANK EVERYONE on this forum for always helping me out in any problem that i encounter,, i really appreciate all your help guys,, and i hope that you guys will never stop on helping me and the other users here,, thank you so much again for everything,,^_^ (wow, im soo dramatic,, but it's true,, i really appreciate your help,,) Godbless everyone in this forum and may we all find solutions to our tech problems,, ^_^ good day,,

Hi rohimirre,

Did you go into the BIOS and reorder the boot order to make usb boot first before CD and then hard drive - on both laptop and desktop?

My Intel motherboard BIOS boot order can be changed to reflect a USB device as first in boot order - check to see if you can do it on both your laptop and desktop.

Hi rohimirre,

Did you perform the boot compatibility test here for both laptop and desktop?

Why 7.04? Why not 8.04?

Also, what boot loader do you use - Lilo, Grub?

You can download that in Live-cd form and then boot to the cd to run it. Have you thought about that?

Hi rohimirre,

Grub Error 17. Or, you may be able to try: Stupid solution for Grub error 17[.

I think that fixing the MBR with a Live CD may be able to fix Error 21. Look/Search in the other threads here in this forum for posts by valis (very recently) which describe how to do that.
