32 Bit Windoiws & 64 Bit Hardy Heron?
I have an AMD 64x2 4000 running XP 32 bit and want to run Ubuntu 8.04 x64 bit in Windows as dual boot (loaded in Windows as program). Anyone know if this will be a problem?? I have another machine 32 bit Intel and running 8.04 in Windows and dual boot and really impressed with Hardy Heron.

Can you clarify something for me?

You say 'loaded in Windows as program' and 'dual boot'?
These things are not consistent. Do you want a 64-bit Ubuntu virtual machine to run using a hypervisor running on XP? Or do you want to dual boot XP and Ubuntu?

Thanks.

Not inconsistant with 8.04. I installed 8.04 while in Windows per option on Ubuntu disc. It shows as a program in XP Add/Remove. It self-installed on my [E] HDD partition. This vs. loading Ubuntu in actual dual boot configuration and having to partition. At any rate, when system boots I have the option to boot into XP or ubuntu same as if set up as dual boot. According to ubuntu site, 8.04 will run slightly slower in this configuration, but otherwise is no different from any other operating characteristic - at least none I've noted and it works better and faster than working from a live CD. I can view all my XP files when I click on 'Computer' and can transfer data between the two systems when booted into ubuntu Hope that answers your question.

To reiterate my question I'm concerned about loading ubuntu x64 the same way on my AMD 64x2 since Windows XP is 32 bit (I386) on my AMD machine.

I don't have enough familiarity to answer your question.
However, if you have a 64-bit machine, this should be OK.
Why not just download the Ubuntu 64-bit distro and boot from it and install it that way?

Personally, I'd use the 32bit Ubuntu. It'll still be fast but there's a few programs and browser addons that work better or only work in the 32 bit.

Naw
Dude, if you have the ability, use 64bit. I run 64 bit and 32 bit XP (sometimes)
And no problems.
