Peace... | | Member with 51 posts. | | | | when you say..distribution...do you mean about what operating system im running?

Linpus Lite 1.03 is the distribution of Linux you're running. So, see if Linpus has a built-in software installation mechanism, commonly referred to as a "package manager" in other Linux distributions. If it does, see if there is a Java environment available using the Linpus software installation mechanism. If it doesn't you can download the Sun environment and install it manually.
Now, are you looking for a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) with a browser plugin so you can run Java applets embedded in web pages or are you looking for a Java Development Kit (JDK) you can use to build Java applets and applications yourself? The reason I ask is if you download the Java environment from Sun, the file you download will be different depending on whether you're after the JRE or the JDK.
Peace... | | Member with 51 posts. | | | | ...ohhhh....thx for the clearing...
......yes my linpus has a package manager...i sometimes use it to get some games for linux...but i have never used it to download things like java, flash, etc...im afraid i might miss a pckage and the whole thing won't work...
anyway, i need the JRE...cause im using a comunity network called "Friendster" and to upload pitures to my album they changed the uploader to a java uploader...and then i have an account on adrive.com and they too also have a java uploader... so i can't upload pretty much anything at the moment...
thank you in advance again.... | | Distinguished Member with 4,606 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Experience: Getting it | | Quote:

thank you in advance again.... | Package managers will get all the dependency files for you as well. That is 1 reason why it is best to use them to install programs. | | Member with 51 posts. | | | | ....waht do you mean by it will also get the dependency files for me?....
.....do you mean that it will automatically get all the files needed for the application that i want to install?....
......i'm also thingking that i might run out of space in my hard disk, installing all sorts of programs....i have bought an acer aspire one mini laptop with an 8gb ssd...and i only have 3.1gb free space left...(already had 3.2gb left when i first used it)...
...so my other question is...what if i need to uninstall some programs or applications that i have installed using the package manager?...
thank you in advance...and Godbless... | | Distinguished Member with 4,606 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Experience: Getting it | | Quote:

I am not sure if yours does or not. A search came back in a foriegn language to me.
You will know if you try it. You will probably see a message about checking dependencies or it will say they are additional packages that need to be marked. Either indicates yes is the answer.
