Exclamation Solved: Set Number Lock
Every Time I boot up Kubuntu the Number Lock key is always OFF and this happens even though the System Settings for the keyboard are set for the Number Lock to be ON. I am running Kubuntu on an MDG VisonBook laptop. The Number Lock Key setting works correctly in the Vista OS on the same laptop.
Does someone have an idea of what might be going on in this case?
Thanks in advance- walt

Sorry, I found the problem
Apparently number lock is working but the indicator light stays off, unlike when running under Windows Vista. Now, I will not have any visual cues to confirm Number Lock, only by actually using the keys while typing will I know for certain. Does anyone know how to make the indicator light work properly, because when I press the Num Lock key now, the light comes on but the number pad is actually locked out and does not function (so it is working backwards now).-walt

I was curious about that myself(different distro though). Research indicated it was to do with security. You DO NOT want PC starting with "NumLock" on. Sorry, no links, this was months ago.

It is not difficult to turn on when needed.

Unfounded. Provide some proof, please.

To each their own.

I have no hard evidence of this:

But I do recall something to the effect that if it wasn't on it couldn't be seen. Security.

Thumbs up Number Lock SOLVED !!!
I found the solution to my number lock problem in Kubuntu at the following URL:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ht=number+lock
I used the information shown below and it solved the problem perfectly. The number lock works perfectly and the number lock light indicator also comes on as it does in Windows Vista.
This is from a forum that is specific to Ubuntu.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kubuntu (KDE 3; KDM display manager)
Under Kubuntu, you will have to edit the parameter file "/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc" (Again, you will need administrative privileges).
Locate the following line in the file: Code:[X-*-Greeter]
Just below this line, add the following line (NOTE: This line is case-sensitive): Code: NumLock=On
Next, make sure that KDE will leave NumLock unchanged ("System Settings" -> "Keyboard and Mouse"; find the "NumLock on KDE Startup" heading, and select "Leave unchanged").
Or, better yet, make sure that KDE turns NumLock On--i.e., select "Turn on" instead of "Leave unchanged."
