Acer Aspire One Mail 1.01.3016 attachment limitation

I just bought an Aspire One and all works fine except for email attachments. Several folks have sent text, gif and jpg attachments and all the attachments get clipped at about 57 Kbytes. I can't find a way to adjust the max allowable attachment size.

I've very new to unix and this is baffling me.
