Linux Wireless Troubles
I'm currently using a Backtrack 3 Live CD. I am trying to connect to my wireless router, when I run iwconfig under wlan0 I can see the EESID of my router, know what I can't seem to do is connect to it, I have tried using Wireless Assistant in Backtrack 3, selected my desired network, put in the passkey and I am still getting "Connection failed.". Any way to do it completely through the command I'm assuming would be alot more effecient, if someone could explain a step by step process it would be greatly appreciated. I have also heard that it could be because of driver/chipset issues, if so how do I about coming to that conclusion? How is the issue resolved if that is the case?

Any insight on anything mentioned in the text above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the read and thanks for your time.

What's your wireless chipset?

Have you tried with encryption off?

Does your version of Linux have some type of Device Manager? What is the brand and model of your wireless adapter?

Login to the router (preferably with an ethernet connected computer), navigate to the wireless section, and set the encryption (or security) mode to 'disabled' or 'off' or 'none.' For more specifics consult the router manual.
