Problem with firefox (Ubuntu 8.0.4 Hardy Heron)
My computer came installed with Firefox 3 beta 5.
Normally I would be fine, but it keeps freezing up every few seconds.

So I tried to update to 3.0.1, but my computer says that 3 beta 5 is the most up to date.

I then attempted a manual install from the repositories, and it said that cannot install, dependent on xulrunner or something.

Finally, I just gave up and installed firefox 3.0.1 for windows using wine.

Could you tell me how to install 3.0.1 for ubuntu?

Thanks,

yajnchan

Your computer (from your computer specs) indicates a Windows Vista Business installation. Do you have another hard drive with Ubuntu 8.04 on it?

If you have a Linux Ubuntu 8.04 installed on a hard drive, see my post in this thread (post#2) for detailed instructions on installing firefox (from the root aka Linux system admin account).

Hi, I tried what you said, but then i get

mv: cannot stat `firefox': No such file or directory

I also tried checking update firefox in preferences, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Help?

Turn off compiz and see if it works then. I've had the same problem on a few computers.

At the beginning of the link I provided you to the other thread, there was some information about the the executables in paragraph 5 starting with the sentence:
The following links are how my Firefox executable is setup

Issue those commands to check on how your executables are setup - the answer to you question is there. I do not know what your "mv" command is related to what you were trying to do.
