I know how to get by in the Linux world, but not nearly as proficient as I am in Windows.

Ahh... then my advice to delete some critical files or to destroy a hard-drive partition in some twisted way might not be good for you

That sounds interesting actually, I have a spare computer with Ubuntu just waiting to be screwed up for the benefit of me learning.

Try installing the VMWare tools. That kept me busy the better part of a day.

I suggest you google for Linux From Scratch - that teaches quite a lot about how linux works. Rather than doing something like 'dd /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2' which completely destroys your harddrive partition (do 'man dd' for that one)
