Fedora 8 wifi card not working
I have Fedora 8 installed on a laptop for a class I'm taking, and I can't get the wifi card (Belkin) to work. Ethernet works fine, so I can download drivers as needed, but the wifi card won't attach to my network.

The drivers appear to load, but when I try to "activate" the interface, it gives me error 8B06 and 8B2A with a "no file or directory" error....

Here's the wlan0 part: Wired works fine.

wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:50:334:40
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Interrupt:11 Memory:d4000000-d4002000

On a side note, I can get the wifi card to connect to an unsecured network with a visible SSID. The minute I either hide the SSID or go WPA, I can't connect. I'm running NetworkManager and wpa_supplicant (with wpa_gui). Not sure if I need both, or just one.

I can't find a version of Wicd to run on Fedora 9 though. (I upgraded from 8 to 9, thinking 8 was the problem but it's not...)

I run slackware (well actually it's a 64bit port of slackware bluewhite 64)
so I don't know where to put the start up scripts for wicd
or the command to run the startup scripts at boot time

wicd is a python program so installing from source is just
a matter of putting the parts in the right places and getting the start up script to run at boot time
it dose not need to be compiled

this is the best place to come for help with windoze BUT
it's not a very good place to come for help with linux
for help with linux go to http://linuxquestions.org

I'm sorry I can't help you more than this
