After nearly 5 years as a KDE user, Kubuntu 8.10 finally sent me over to Gnome, something I had resisted for so long. Okay, Gnome is not so bad...

Widgets, huh...Wow, what were they thinking? Thanks for ruining a good thing KDE team...I won't be back.

Hi tomdkat,

I haven't received my snailmail distribution copies yet, but this month I will get FiOS installed (too many disconnects from my long time 56kb dialup ISP).

So, I am looking forward to a much better experience. The only downside is that my WinXP is still stb'd from 2 years ago, and I shudder that I might have to do a parallel reinstall to satisfy the FiOS installation requirements.

I upgraded yesterday and it's good. The only thing I don't like is the huge eject button for the optical drive, as shown here

Hi namenotfound,

In Hardy, i.e. 8.04, they entirely deleted any icon display of mounted devices like hard disks, so I find it amusing that they have the so-called (as you say) huge eject button for the CD-ROM in the left-hand panel of the display. Right where it belongs I suspect.

You'll get over it - since you'll never be able to miss it when you want to use it!
