Angry What is this error?? how to fix it???
Kernel Panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on 01:03
I have windows xp pro right now and when i try to install Linux Mandrake 8.2 it gets this error. Heres what happens i boot to the Disk 1 Install disk (I have tried a floppy too same thing) and then the beginning install screen comes up and i press enter and it goes through all the peripheals and does some stuff and then stops on this error:
Kernel Panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on 01:03
and then it freezes and shows a cursor that i cant type anything with. I cant even control+alt+delete. If that is weird. Thanks

Smile one way to overcome this.
I overcame this by giving command line parameters during installation.
linux mem=xxxM did the trick for me. even though i have 384 MB of RAM, 64MB is dedicated for the AGP card, so i gave
linux mem=320M and voila, it worked!
i didnt have to mess with the Power management settings in the bios.
incidentally, i have an AMD 800 MHZ Duron proc.
hope this helps.

Have you tried any of the suggestions made in your previous post? If so, what were the results?
