A couple of quick questions:

(1) what type of mouse are you using (serial, USB, etc.)?
(2) what sound card is installed in your computer?

In general, Linux does not attempt to provide sound support right out of the box (too many sound cards, and nothing in the installation really depends on having sound). However, many sound cards are supported (the good news) but to use this support, you may need to recompile the kernel (the bad news). Recompiling the kernel is not difficult, and after a time or two, you won't even think twice about it.

Hope this helps.

Glad to hear that the mouse problem has been solved. You will need to know your onboard sound chipset in order to determine how to support sound from your kernel. Check your motherboard manual for info, and have a look at the sound-HOWTO for some background info. Once you identify the sound chip(s) being used on your motherboard, you can search RedHat.com for articles that reference these. You may only need to modify /etc/modules.conf in order to get sound support.

Hope this helps.
