I found a screenshot of Windows 7 and it looks a lot like fluxbox. | | Distinguished Member with 7,909 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Elsewhere Experience: NA | | I have seen couple videos and that doesnt look familiar | | Senior Member with 210 posts. | | Join Date: May 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | I mean, if you look closely at the sidebar you can see that its using drive letters as opposed to /dev/sdx.
It might not be Windows 7. After all, I got this screenshot off of 4chan. | | Distinguished Member with 14,988 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2003 Location: 1265 Lombardi Ave Experience: IIAHYAYCESA,YAADA! | | That doesn't look like any of the screen shots I have seen of Windows 7. i've seen windows 7
it's just a vista rehash. | | Senior Member with 210 posts. | | Join Date: May 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | The screenie might be Xandros. That's the one Linux distro that I know of that uses drive letters. Also, I think Open BSD uses drive letters.
Moebius: Windows 7 is just a vista rehash? Why are people calling it "The Linux killer"? It seems to me that as long as their are people that support free software Linux will never "die". | | Distinguished Member with 4,606 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Experience: Getting it | | Quote:

I think this might cause more people to start buying Mac OS X. One thing we (and by "we" I mean the *NIX communtity) need to is to try and get people on Linux. I work as a teacher's assistant and they're always complaining about budget. Now, I don't know how much Windows costs but Linux based distros are free. I think Edubuntu would be nice for schools but I'd probably have to appeal to the schoolboard. | | Distinguished Member with 4,606 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Experience: Getting it |

Ditto. The students would be all that much better off. Since windows is so "easy" and "intuitive," they shouldn't have any problem migrating if need be in work environment.
They would have to add an "anti-computer" course though. Anti-virus, anti-spyware...They wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about.

I am having the same thoughts though as there is likely to be a very good future in Linux Home support as has been in past for windows.
I can't see Linux user base getting any smaller, just bigger and bigger.
Thank-you Vista, if it wasn't for you, I may have never found Linux.

#13 | Lol, yea, I owe it all to Vista as well. I got Ubuntu after Vista made my computer choke.
Now I dualboot with Ubuntu and archlinux. I like building my own OS. With archlinux it wasn't hard. You can make an OS and kernel custom tailored to your machine. | | Distinguished Member with 4,606 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ontario, Canada Experience: Getting it |

I used to build from source when I used Slackware, way back when. Whenever I installed on a "new" machine, I would start with an outdated Slackware CD I bought years ago and install the base system and networking support. Then, I would pull the latest development tools, glibc, kernel, and X sources and update my system from source. Once X was up, then I would pull some window manager sources and other GUI apps and build my system that way.
