Wine Doesn't Like Me
Hello Friends,
I am now in the final stage in transition over from linux to windows, GAMES...

Wine is great, and works for most things, but not Oblivion. Under xp, Oblivion works fine on High detail, with no lag, so I know that my pc can handle it. (We're talking pc 3 on the list here.)

However, when I start up oblivion, it doesn't detect that I have a nVidia graphics card and when I try to start it, it is very laggy and you can only see the top half of the screen, making it almost impossible to create a character.

What do I do?

Oh, If possible, could anybody tell me if you can have an ipod under rhythm box, because that would save me a lot of time.

Cheers
James

Here is the link to the winehq's website for Oblivion. It looks like other people have had problems with this as well.

Hello there, fixed the first problem temporarily, by installing "oldblivion." However, I now have another problem. No matter what games I install, or copy, or attempt to play, including oblivion, it comes up with a black screen and it refuses to start. This is a huge problem, as I have just completed the complete ubuntu install and I'm not interedted in going back to xp, nor into just playing linux games.

You have a vm installed, just install a copy of Windows xp and use that to play your games.

You will not be able to use 3D capable drivers in a VM.

prunejuice is right It seems loads of people are having similar problems, but everyone else has sound with thier wine. Mine is just a black screen. It is a pain as I will have to go on holiday without any games.
Cheers for your replies,
James

I'd rather not hear the wine. Joke

Linux has a surprising amount of games. Good variety as well. Check your repo.

What kind do you like? Maybe I can make a suggestion.

If Linux has a game like medieval 2 total war, or rome total war, then would be interested. I am a gamer, (hence the xp-only pc,) and I am really into linux also. For this reason, linux games don't cut it as they usually have terrible graphics.
I have another problem, after solving the 1st problem, whenever I try to play medieval total war 2 1.0 the game has an error and quits. Any Suggestions?
James
