always-on ssh tunnel
hi

i currently use ssh tunneling in order to route all my internet traffic through a vps.

i connect via ssh with all the default options to a vps, binding port 1080 on my machine to the ssh connection. i then set firefox's proxy to localhost:1080 (socks)

there's a tiny problem here. i have to restart the ssh tunnel all the time, especially every time i restart or when i bring the computer out of standby or hibernate. this can get annoying.

short of getting off my *** and writing a script, is there anyway to implement an always on ssh connection?

note: i have root privileges on the vps, but my provider doesn't allow me to host a proxy.

thanks

Think for yourself
Question authority
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we dont know who we are or where were going in this ocean of chaos, its been the authorities, the political, religious, educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness.

Why not just create an alias in bashrc?
