Angry Installing Linux on a Compaq ML530
Hi,
I have a frustrating problem installing Debian 40r3 on a COMPAQ(HP) ML530 Server. Essentially the install begins and boots to the boot screen, then after hitting enter to continue the install starts then after 2 or 3 seconds it stalls. I have tried 3 different distros and also different versions going back to Mandrake 9 which is approximately the same vintage, with similar results. It appears to be a clash with Linux genarally however even RED Hat does not work which COMPAQ supplies with theses servers as a package. I know Linux can run on these servers but there is obviously a problem with installation.
The HDDs have been setup correctly using SmartStart 5.5.
If anyone has any ideas or has seen anything in passing please let me know or post the link so I can chase it up.
I read some time ago that someone had solved the problem but I have been unable to find it again.

Thanks in advance.

System details:
ML530
Dual 1GHz XEON CPU
1Gb Ram
216Gb RAID1 SCSI Storage
Floppy
CD ROM
16Mb Video
Triple Redundant PSU
Redundant Cooling

Check the BIOS on the ML530 to make sure it's configured for Linux/Unix instead of Windows or Novell...

The BIOS isn't going to have any information for an operating system.
