Need ways to get Linux on IBM laptop.
Hello, I have an old Laptop that has no usb, and no cd drive. The only things it does have is a comm port, a parallel port, a floppy drive, and an ethernet card.

I am a big fan of the new puppy linux os and I'm trying to find out a way to install it on this laptop, I can't think of anyway to do it because the setup files only run from a cd or usb flash drive on boot up. Can anyone help??

Another option would be to put the hard drive from this laptop in another laptop, that has a USB port or a CD-ROM drive and install Puppy Linux on that. Then, put the hard drive back in the original laptop. Since the device drivers should be loaded as modules, the kernel *should* automatically "adjust" to the new hardware it finds. The tricky part will most likely be getting X to load the proper video driver, so you will probably need to reconfigure X. Or, if you configure a generic VGA video driver in the "surrogate" laptop, you can then configure a video adapter specific driver later.

Peace...

thanks, but the hard drive in the laptop has it's own unique interface and I have know idea what type of interface it is (it's doesn't say anywhere) and thats when i get angry at ibm, because they do this alot, they make a computer with unique parts or connections that just doesnt make any sense or they make some hardware that is only compatible with a certain model of a pc
