Virtual PC and Vmware Player
I have both Microsofts Virtual PC and Vmware Player on my computer. I tried the Virtual PC much sooner than I did the Vmware Player, and basically have all the programs installed on it that I may require in my testing. I prefer the Vmware player and I would like to know if I can convert the Virtual PC files into something that the Vmware Player would recognize and be able to us. I have told Vmware Player to open Virtual PC's "VMC" files; however; it just hangs at the opening screen and seems to do nothing.
Is it possible to open the Virtual PC files with the Vmware Player?

Tried the program and it worked great. Took about an hour, but had a working file.

Thanks for your trouble and knowledge!

Ya might be interested in ready to go VMware images you can download, unzip, and use. Most of these are various flavors of linux, but there's others available. I know you could find Windows 7 for awhile.

I use VMware on a daily basis. That's mostly how I run Windows in Linux when I need to

The new VMware Workstation 6.5 is very nice, but seems to run slower and less stable than the 6.0.X recent versions.

Right now I've been running VMware Workstation 6.0.4 and I love it

I also use VMware but possibly due to the free version I use it doesn't have the capability to mount other partitions. Do you guys run versions of VMware that allows a guest system to mount partition outside the host?

The VMware guest system appears to be a prisoner kept inside the host operating system and does not seem to be able to do any cross-platform activity as an independently installed system would.

I'm just a rookie when it comes to VMware or anything Virtual as far as that goes! Right now I'm using it to test Windows 7 and using it to load/test programs before I install on my main system.
Right now I have VMware and windows 7 and Trend Micro locked/frozen; can't seem to do anything to fix the problem Haven't tried very hard though! Me thinks; Trend Micro is not compatible with Windows 7. Locked half way through the installation.

I use a paid full version of VMware Workstation 6.x.x and it really has no limitations as far as mounting drives and sharing files between host/guest systems.

jtrag,

I am interested in a guest able to mount partitions outside the host/guest control or even can one guest accessing the files of another guest without going through the host.

If the systems are independent then a Linux can mount and unmount any partition in every hard disk. It is the God given right of every Linux.

This can be done with simple networking and VMware Workstation 6.x.x

I use 6.5
I too use VMware to test multi OS platforms. But I use 6.5. I think 6.5 is definitely easy and has more features than the 6.0.4 as I have used both. 6.5 supports for better resolution and mouse, keyboard handlings. Once my PC got hung up when I tried to minimize the guest OS from the full screen mode in VMware 6.0.4, in which case I had to press my reboot button.
Mounting partition outside the host is not an issue in 6.5 too.
Presently I use guest OS's to check softwares before installing in the host.
But I have a question for you Jtrag. Do you experience that the size of the folder, in which u have installed the guest, increases even after u uninstall a tested software or delete any file you added ?
